I hitchhiked around the world when I left school at 18. On my return I worked for two decades as a therapist, team leader and manager supporting children and families in Leeds. I now work at the University of Leeds as a facilitator, mentor and tutor with medical students. When not working I love nothing better than to go down to one of my favourite rivers to angle for wild brown trout and grayling.
From 2014 to 2016 I took on the Training Officer role for Salmon and Trout Conservation (Yorkshire Branch) where I planned, coordinated and ran a series of fly fishing workshops. As part of my passion for the natural world I took on the role of Riverfly Coordinator for the middle to upper reaches of the River Aire.
I looked after a group of riverfly monitors equally passionate about the conservation of our river habitats. Alas, I stepped down from the role in December 2016 due to work committments. I still do my bit by sampling invertebrates on my local urban river – the River Worth in Keighley, West Yorkshire. You can find out more about the important role of riverfly monitoring for looking after our rivers and streams at the Riverfly Partnership.
